New York 80’s Graffiti Exhibition in Paris

As copy and pasted with much respect and props to High Snobiety: “Graffiti New York 80’s is up and running at Paris’ Galerie Jerome de Noirnont. The show features a who’s who of famed 80’s bombers: A-ONE, Jean-Michel BASQUIAT, BLADE, Bill BLAST, CRASH, DONDI WHITE, FAB 5 FREDDY, FUTURA 2000, Keith HARING, RAMMELLZEE, and TOXIC. AsCurated puts it, “the show is all about the pioneering spirit of New York art during the decade.” We’ve been told that the above piece by Futura and Crash is going for 60,000 Euros.

Audrée Lapierre X FFunction Nutrition Facts Packaging

A FFunction self-initiated project, Audrée Lapierre’s Nutrition Facts Packaging asks more than a couple of fundamental questions about the role of brands and designers on education and honest information. The nutritional facts are used to brand the packaging as well as giving useful informations about the product. The data visualisations offer a clean graphic approach of the caloric ratio, nutrient balance completeness, ingredients and their specific amount of carbohydrate, fat, protein and sodium per serving.

Gerry Mckay X Adidas X Facebook X Twitter

Glasgow based designer Gerry Mckay came up with a good idea: Facebook and Twitter versions of the 40 years old classic Adidas Superstar. I know all you Sneaker Heads must be thinking about how good or bad they look, but it this case i think that’s beyond the point. Will we see this trend-to-be happen in the real world? It makes sense form a cross branding / maketing point of view. Anyway, I really hope Mckay gets a promotion or even some new work proposals. (Hello?? Adidas??) Good ideas make the money go around and this one has the potential to generate more buzz & attention than the actual real Adidas campaign. Good work!

The Ramp Locals Suck!

I don’t buy Nike shoes and I don’t like them getting into skateboarding, but I have to say Nike is trying really hard to pretend they have roots in skateboarding. This release proves The Ramp Locals still suck and have sold out! On the other hand, it’s an incredible example of branding strategies, managing to absorb sub-cultural references and making it happen in style. Still, it’s great they did not do a Dagger’s model.

Nike SB created a movie themed series of releases that sprang up in 2008 and included hits like Ferris Bueller and classic skateboarding flick Thrashin. The Nike Thrashin SB Dunk High Premium incorporated the movie’s poster that included Corey Webster holding a skateboard with a spider on it. This design is worked into the upper, which features a silver spider web like pattern on top of black panels, Like Corey used on his Spiderweb deck tape. Other references to the movie include vibrant colors like those found on the gradient swoosh. The Thrashin Dunks were first sold in May of 2008 hitting most retailers.

Sachiko Kodama’s Ferrofluids

Sachiko Kodama‘s “Morpho Towers / Two Standing Spirals” is an installation that consists of two ferrofluid sculptures that moves synthetically to music. The two spiral towers stand on a large plate that hold ferrofluid. When the music starts, the magnetic field around the tower is strengthened. Spikes of ferrofluid are born from the bottom plate and move up, trembling and rotating around the edge of the iron spiral.
This new technique is called “ferrofluid sculpture” that enables artists to create dynamic sculptures with fluid materials. This technique uses one electromagnet, and an extended sculpted iron core. The ferrofluid covers the sculpted surface of the iron core that was made on an electronic NC lathe. (Read More)

Drunk History

“If you haven’t seen Drunk History, get ready to spend this afternoon laughing yourself into a stupor. How it works: the producers get somebody super-drunk, then have that person tell a story from history. This story is usually completely inaccurate, but hilarious due to the aforementioned super-drunkenness. Then the producers get actors (often surprisingly high-caliber actors) to reenact the story word-for-word as told by the super-drunk person. The rest is Drunk History”.
